Rakhi Sawant was born in Neeru Sawant in a Marathi Hindu family in Mumbai. Her father is an ACP with the Mumbai Police & her mother is Usha Sawant, brother Rakesh is an upcoming director & sister Jaya is a housewife. Rakhi studied in Goklibai School, Vile Parle & later studied Arts at Mithibai College.
Rakhi was only 14 year old when she was offered her first item number opposite Govinda for the movie Joru ka Gulam. Her biggest success came with the item song mohabbat hai mirchi for the movie Chura Liya Hai Tumne. Her mother was supportive of Rakhi's move towards acting whereas her policeman father was so strongly against the path Rakhi was taking that he left the household.
Her appearance is not only in bollywood movie but has also appeared in a number of music videos; most notably for the remix number Pardesiya. After she received wider notice as a contestant in several reality shows, including Big Boss and Nach Baliye, she began to receive considerable coverage from the Indian press. Sawant is a life member of International Film and Television Club of Asian Academy of Film & Television. |
