Shiney Ahuja is the son of an Army Colonel & was born in Dehradun. He studied in The Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan New Delhi & graduated from R. V. College of Engineering, Bangalore with a specialization in Computer Science & Engineering.

Joining the armed forces was his ambition, but then he got attracted to theatre & he joined Barry Johns acting School in Delhi, before moving to Mumbai. He is married to Anu Ahuja from Delhi, of Bihari descent. They have a daughter together born in 2007. 

Ahuja made his acting debut with Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003) which was not released in theatres until 2005.The film won Shiney Ahuja rave reviews and was viewed as one of the best films of that year. Ahuja won the Best male debut filmfare award for his performance.

Before making his debut in films Shiny appeared in a music video for the British asian band Stereo Nation.

His most popular role to date is in Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster. His next release was Woh Lamhe which was critically acclaimed & did moderately at the box office. His film Life In A.. Metro opposite Shilpa Shetty picked up after a slow start & became a box office hit. His recent release Bhool Bhulaiya has been very successful at the box office.
